Horse and Buggy Days

Horse & Buggy Days - Past to Present

A brief history from Elmer and Florence Oehlke

In 1960 a group of Weyauwega businessmen, led by Robert Hofferber, decided to put this little town of Weyauwega, on the map. Horse and Buggy Days was born!

During the celebration, the town moves back to the turn of the 19th century every fall.

Many local residents have ancestors who helped settle the area and thought it was a great idea. Excited residents got into the spirit and looked through old trunks, attics, barns and sheds to see what they could find. Even neighboring communities got involved! What everyone found made quite a display. People came for many miles just to see all the old things.

Horse & Buggy Days Today

The annual celebration continues! The King & Queen are carefully selected every year. An Honorary Breakfast is held the Friday before the celebration opens to offer all the Kings & Queens to gather and reminisce. They visit the local schools to share the tradition of Horse & Buggy Days.

The celebration begins Friday late afternoon with the ribbon-cutting by the current King & Queen of Horse & Buggy Days.

Saturday hosts the big Horse & Buggy Day parade.

Over the years, the weekend event has changed with the times. There have been years Horse & Buggy Days went Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The event has welcomed Civil War and Frontier re-enactment groups, artists practicing the Lost Arts as well as the Oneida Nation; and looks forward to continuing such friendships and creating new ones.
